The SOMA Grounding Ritual
Ritual, in SOMA, means practice.
Each mist is paired with a simple sensory sequence that helps the body return to the present through touch, scent, and breath.
The SOMA Grounding Practice draws on established sensory-awareness techniques, re-imagined through scent, touch, and ritual design.
This is the core SOMA grounding practice.
It can be used whenever the body feels unsettled — during stress, anxiety, restlessness, or emotional disconnection.
It’s gentle enough for moments of dissociation and simple enough to become a daily act of calm.
Even using it once each morning — misting before makeup, or as the first quiet pause of the day — begins to weave calm into daily rhythm.
1. Hold
Take your SOMA bottle or grounding stone in your hand.
Feel its weight and temperature, the curve of the glass, the smooth grain of the wooden cap, the way the shape fits naturally in your palm.
Notice the materials — glass, wood, air, skin.
2. Mist
Spray a fine veil of mist onto your face, body or into the air.
Breathe slowly.
Let the scent unfold in layers.
Name three notes you can smell — maybe wood, spice, resin, or something bright and green.
3. Notice
Look and listen around you.
Name one colour and one sound that exist in this moment.
4. Breathe again
Whisper to yourself:
I’m here. This is now.
Why it works
The body re-enters the present through the senses.
Touch and scent give it something real to hold and explore, drawing awareness down from thought and back into physical presence.
The layered aroma keeps attention moving, allowing the nervous system to settle and the body to remember itself.
This grounding practice can be used whenever calm feels far away — during stress, anxiety, restlessness, or emotional disconnection.
It’s gentle enough for moments of dissociation and simple enough to become a daily act of calm.
Each mist builds on this sequence in its own way —
Clearing brings air, Calm builds warmth, Softening restores gentleness, and Sleep guides you into rest.
Because the mists engage multiple senses, you can use this ritual anywhere — even in moments when there’s little around you to see, hear, or touch. The scent, the weight of the bottle, and the rhythm of breath give the body something immediate to focus on — a portable point of calm you can return to whenever you need it.
The Soma Grounding Cards
The Soma Grounding Cards expand on this core ritual with specific practices designed to meet more particular states — moments of overwhelm, fatigue, emotional distance, or sensory overload.
Each card offers a small, guided ritual to steady the body through touch, breath, or focused attention.
Together, the mists and cards form a complete sensory system of support — guiding the body back to presence, one small ritual at a time.
